The 2017 Malibu Has Three Engine Choices

The 2017 Malibu is in the ninth generation of the vehicle starting with the 2016 model year. The Malibu has a sleek design that you can’t help but love. Three engine choices are available with the 2017 Malibu starting with a turbocharged 1.5 liter 4-cylinder offering. This engine is available on Malibu trims L through LT1. It can develop 160 horsepower with torque of 184 lb-ft. The EPA fuel economy is 27 mpg in city driving and 36 mpg highway driving.

Premier models of the 2017 Malibu come with the turbocharged 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine. This engine can develop 250 horsepower with torque of 258 lb-ft. It comes with a new 9-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is rated as 22 mpg for city driving and 33 mpg for highway driving.

The new hybrid Malibu uses 2 electric motors (designated as Motor A and Motor B) with a 1.8 liter inline-4 engine. Motor A delivers 55 kW and Motor B delivers 76 kW. When the electric motors are combined with the gasoline engine, the fuel economy is 49 mpg in the city and 43 mpg on the highway. With the motors combined the hybrid can develop 136 horsepower with torque of 277 lb-ft.
