The Chevy Volt is one of the vehicles that started the revolution in the world of extended range vehicles, and the 2017 is more impressive than ever.
The 2017 Chevrolet Volt is a perfect choice for drivers who want the benefits of an full-electric vehicle, but want to keep the peace of mind that comes with a gas engine for when your charge runs out. Chevrolet notes that owners drive in all-electric mode over 80 percent of the time and have driven a total of more than 650 million EV miles. That’s contributed to a savings of nearly 35 million gallons of gas. The Volt provides over 50 miles of pure electric driving—more than enough for the average American—but if you need more, the gas engine kicks in and allows for up to 420 miles on a full tank. Chevrolet expects most owners to drive around 1,000 miles between fill ups with regular charging.
Among the new additions for the 2017 model year are a Citron Green Metallic exterior paint color that provides additional visual flair. Additionally, Forward Automatic Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control join the list of standard equipment, as well as the popular Teen Driver feature that promotes safer driving among younger drivers.
The Volt is offered in two trim levels— LT and Premier— and even the entry-level LT model is standard with a slew of standard equipment including LED headlights, daytime running lights and taillights, power exterior mirrors and 17-inch wheels. Inside, you’ll find a six-speaker audio system with SiriusXM® radio, USB/auxiliary connectivity, automatic climate control, leather wrapped steering wheel, eight-inch color LCD screen, remote start and keyless entry. The Premier model adds heated exterior mirrors, a Bose® audio system, auto dimming rearview mirror, leather seating surfaces, and heated front seats. Heated rear seats are also available.
On the safety front, the Volt comes standard with 10 airbags, a rear-vision camera and StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control. You can also add available features including Side Blind Zone Alert with Lane Change Alert, Forward Collision Alert with Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. These technologies helped the Volt earn a 2017 Top Safety Pick+ rating with a Superior rating in Front Crash Prevention from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. That’s in addition to a 5-Star Overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Peace of mind is provided through the OnStar telematics system with three months of the Guidance Plan, on top of warranty coverage that includes eight-years/100,000-miles of Battery Protection with Courtesy Transportation, five-years/60,000-miles of Powertrain/Drivetrain protection and even two years/24,000-miles (two visits) of scheduled maintenance.
Automobile Magazine notes “The new Volt is a gargantuan leap forward. Not only is it more capable, efficient, refined, versatile, and user-friendly than the original — it’s also cheaper.”
