The 2012 Cadillac SRX brings new and improved powertrain options. The 2011 model’s 3.0L and 2.8L turbocharged V6 engines have been dropped, and replaced with a 3.6L direct-injection V6 with 308 horsepower. The new SRX engine is similar to the one found in the Cadillac CTS. The SRX’s six-speed transmission has also been improved for the 2012 model year, and includes a new eco mode that improves the overall fuel efficiency to 17mpg in the city and 24mpg on the highway, impressive for crossover with its size and power.
The five-passenger SRX is available in seven trim levels, with the top-of-the-line model being the all-wheel drive Premium Collection. The latter includes extra features, such as a front-row DVD player, a voice-activated GPS navigation and a 40GB hard drive. Even the SRX base model is well-equipped, and includes features like On-Star, a Bose stereo, leather upholstery, a tilting and telescopic steering column and theater-style rear seating.
With its sleek design and practical interior, the SRX is great for a young professional or family who needs more room than a traditional sedan can provide, but wants more performance and fuel efficiency than traditional SUVs offer.
The SRX was introduced for the 2004 model year, and shares its chassis with the Cadillac CTS, the brand’s rear-wheel drive sports sedan. This helps it retain the handling of a car while adding the benefit of a large rear-cargo area. The 2012 SRX is the third-model year of the crossover’s second-generation body style, first introduced in 2010.
