The 2013 Chevy Volt Stands Alone

When is a hybrid not a hybrid? When it has a gasoline engine but doesn’t use it to power the wheels.

The 2013 Chevrolet Volt has a 16.5-kwh lithium battery pack and a 149 horsepower, 273 pound-feet of torque electric motor. The high torque of the electric motor means the Volt is more energetic around town than its gas counterpart. It can reach a speed of 100 mph and goes from a standing start to 60 mph in a little under nine seconds.

The Volt will run on electric-only for 25 to 50 miles around town before the batteries run low.  Everyone else has a gas engine which powers the wheels directly or no gas engine at all. The Volt’s 1.4 liter gas engine turns a generator which sends electricity to the motor and can power the Volt for another 380 miles. If you use the car only for trips less than 35 miles and plug it in every night, you’ll never use a drop of gas. Equivalent miles per gallon while running on electricity are around 130 mpg in the city and 100 mpg on the highway (another oddity of electric motors – they perform best in stop and go driving).

The rest of the Volt makes driving enjoyable. Chevy provides the common list of standard equipment; automatic headlights, keyless entry, automatic climate control and Bluetooth capabilities. The Premium package adds leather upholstery, leather wrapped steering wheel and heated front seats. You can get a rearview camera and parking sensors and a navigation system and Bose speaker upgrade.

The engine also assists acceleration and powers various accessories that the alternator normally powers. The Chevy Malibu Eco is also equipped with a stop/stand system that helps conserve fuel by shutting off the car when it is stopped at traffic lights.

There are many standard features available on the new Chevy Malibu Eco such as heated mirrors, keyless entry, 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, a tilt-telescoping steering wheel and a 60/40 split folding rear seat. The 2012 Chevrolet Traverse: A Great American SUV for Families

If you are looking for a great American-made SUV a model you should check out is the 2012 Traverse from Chevrolet. It is a model aimed at drivers who need quite a bit of cargo space and a comfortable vehicle for highway trips as well as driving around town.

The Traverse can accommodate 8 people and their gear in comfort which makes it an attractive alternative to a minivan for anyone who wants to avoid that segment of the automotive market.

The 2012 Chevy Traverse comes equipped with a 3.6L V6 engine that produces 281 HP and 266 lb-ft of torque which is enough to get the Traverse up to highway speeds at a brisk pace and provide you with confidence for passing big rigs and slower vehicles you encounter in everyday driving.
