For 2018, Chevrolet completely reimagined the Equinox five-passenger compact SUV from the ground up to be smarter, more efficient, more athletic, safer and more stylish than ever before.
The Chevrolet Equinox has always been a hit with buyers, selling more than two million units and ranking as the second-best selling Chevrolet vehicle behind the Silverado. For the 2018 model year, Chevy promises to take this already-popular compact SUV and greatly improve performance, fuel efficiency and stylish innovation to appeal to a wider audience.
Powering the new Equinox is a choice between three efficient and powerful turbocharged engines. A 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine is standard, producing 170 hp and 203 lb/ft of torque and expected to achieve 31 mpg highway. Your second choice is the available, segment-first 1.6-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine that’s expected to return an outstanding 40 mpg highway while producing 136 hp and 236 lb/ft of torque. Both engines send power to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. If you need more power, consider the available 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder , which produces an impressive 252 hp and 260 lb/ft of torque and is rated at up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity. This engine is mated to an all-new nine-speed automatic transmission. Buyers can also opt for an all-wheel-drive system that disconnects from the rear axle when added traction is not needed, thereby functioning as a fuel-efficient front-wheel-drive vehicle in most driving conditions.
To help improve efficiency as well as handling, Chevrolet has trimmed nearly 400 pounds of weight from the previous Equinox–a 10 percent reduction in weight that has significant performance benefits.
The redesigned exterior of the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox sports a lean and muscular look with tasteful chrome trim accents. Thanks to extensive time spent wind-tunnel testing, the Equinox also offers enhanced aerodynamics to help improve fuel economy while reducing unwanted wind noise at freeway speeds. Projector beam headlights come standard on every Equinox model, as well as attractive LED daytime running lamps and available LED taillights.
Thanks to its completely new design, the 2018 Equinox‘s interior is more spacious than before, and also offers improved outward visibility. High quality soft-touch materials are found throughout the cabin, giving the Equinox an added touch of refined sophistication. The 2018 Equinox features either a seven- or eight-inch MyLink infotainment system that integrates with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. For those who need connectivity on the go, an OnStar® 4G LTE WiFi hotspot is also available.
Despite its status as a compact crossover SUV, the 2018 Equinox is anything but compact on the inside, boasting maximum cargo capacity of 63.5 cubic feet thanks to a new fold-flat seatback design.
To make driving safer and more convenient, the 2018 Equinox features radar and camera-based adaptive systems that can help alert you to hazards and potentially avoid collisions. Innovations like Surround Vision, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Change Alert are all available on the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. The Surround Vision system gives drivers a 360-degree virtual overhead view of the vehicle thanks to four cameras: a standard rear vision camera, two side-mounted cameras and a grille-mounted front camera.
