The Cadillac CTS has altered its dimensions somewhat. The wheelbase is up by 1.2 inches, and the overall length is a bit over four inches longer. The interior measurements are about the same as the 2013 model. The curb weight is down. With its new sleek design, the 2014 CTS weighs 200 fewer pounds than the BMW.
New to the model is its 3.6 Liter Twin Turbo V6 Engine. The direct-injected V-6 offers 420 horsepower and has 430 lb-ft of torque. To some extent, the V6 operates the same as the 3.6 liter that inhabits many GM vehicles, yet it has been reworked for forced-induction. The cylinder heads and block casting can only be found in the twin-turbo version. Connection rods are beefed up. And the new V6 has 90 percent new parts, including a top-mounted inter cooler and Mitsubishi-engineered turbos.
The new CTS will feature a version of the alpha rear-drive platform. Front suspension, hoods and doors are a made from aluminum to augment Cadillac’s weight saving effort. With the addition of the 3.6 liter V-6 engine, an estimated 19 miles per gallon can be reached in the city, and 28 miles per gallon on the highway.
