The 2012 Corvette – Still America’s Musclecar

The Corvette reigns supreme as America’s high performance car. The 2012 model year also introduces the limited edition Chevrolet Corvette Centennial Edition to celebrate 100 years.

The Corvette is of course available in both convertible and hatchback, but the high performance versions only come in a hatchback. The two main packages are the base and the GS. Both come equipped with a 6.2 liter V8 engine that produces an impressive 430 horsepower and 424 pound-feet torque. Paired up to the engine is a six speed manual transmission and a launch control system to keep traction under extreme acceleration. The base level Corvette gets from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about 4.5 seconds. The GS version gets there about a tenth of a second faster.

If the incredible performance of the Corvette just isn’t quite enough for you, there are the Z06 and the ZR1 packages. The Z06 gets an upgraded 7.0 liter V8 engine that produces just over 500 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The larger engine and the other performance upgrades propel the Z06 from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just under 4 seconds.

Over 500 horsepower still isn’t enough for some drivers and for them Chevrolet has created the ZR1. The ZR1 gets the 6.2 liter V8 engine that comes standard on the other Corvettes, but it gets the addition of a supercharger. Horsepower gets boosted to an unbelievable 638 and 0 to 60 times are reduced by an additional tenth of a second.
